Italian Stewed Tomatoes

Description
Slow-simmered tomatoes with garlic, basil, and olive oil, often used as a stew-like side or sauce—simple, rustic, and full of Italian charm.
Ingredients
- 24 large tomatoes - peeled, seeded and chopped
- 1 cup chopped celery 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 2 teaspoons dried basil
- 1 tablespoon white sugar
Directions
- In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine tomatoes, celery, onion, bell pepper, basil and sugar. Cover and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
