Air fryer Bang Bang Shrimp

Description
These air fryer bang bang shrimp are super crunchy outside and so succulent inside with a delicious sauce. Just the perfect main/appetizer perfect for weeknight dinners or parties.
Ingredients
- 1 lb. shrimp or 450 gm. medium shrimp/prawn
- ¼ cup wholewheat flour
- ½ cup buttermilk or milk or plant-based milk for dairy free
- 1 cup breadcrumbs or panko
- ½ tsp. pepper
- ½ tsp. cayenne or paprika
- ½ tsp. pink salt or regular salt
- ½ tsp. italian seasoning optional
- ½ cup mayo
- ¼ cup thai sweet chili sauce
- 2 tbsp. sriracha sauce
Directions
- Peel, devein and wash the shrimp. Dry them well.
- Assemble 3 shallow bowls. Take ¼ cup wholewheat flour in one bowl, ½ cup milk or buttermilk in second bowl and 1 cup Panko or breadcrumbs with seasoning in third bowl. I use ½ tsp. pepper, ½ tsp. cayenne, ½ tsp. pink salt along with ½ tsp. Italian seasoning for the seasoning.
- Preheat air fryer at 390F or 200C for 4 minutes.
- Dip the shrimp in flour. Dust off the excess. Dip in buttermilk/milk. Then dunk in breadcrumb to cover completely. Keep aside.
- Do one batch like this. I can fit about 15 medium shrimp in my air fryer in one batch. If you use large shrimp then you can fit about 9.
- Brush air fryer basket with oil and lay the breaded shrimp in one layer in the basket so that there is gap between them.
- Air fry at 390F or 200C for about 6-8 minutes for medium shrimp. They will get crunchy and golden brown on the outside and perfectly cooked inside. Make sure you don’t overcook because they continue to cook for a bit even after taking them out.
- For larger or jumbo shrimp, you will need to cook for about 10 minutes at 390F or 200C in the preheated air fryer.
- Please keep checking the time after 6 minutes because each air fryer is different.
- Take out and serve hot with Bang bang sauce.
- Mix together ½ cup mayo, ¼ cup Thai sweet chili sauce and 2 tbsp. Sriracha sauce. Mix well and your bang bang sauce is ready.
- You can adjust the quantity of Sriracha sauce depending upon how much heat you like.
- Serve Bang bang sauce as a dip on the side with shrimp. This is how I prefer to serve as I love to bite into the crunch of the air fried shrimp.
- You can also toss the shrimp in the sauce and serve immediately.
- Or you can drizzle the sauce on the air fried shrimp and serve immediately.
